Seton Hall Prep is New Jersey’s oldest Catholic college preparatory school. The Prep's tradition is matched by its commitment to the education of young men by teaching them to think critically, communicate effectively and become contributing members of society.
At Seton Hall Prep, students participate in many of the amazing offerings available to them outside of the classroom. This includes 15 sports, more than 70 activities and clubs, a variety of intramurals and a seemingly endless number of service projects.
“To equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ.”
Last year Mr. John Pascal of the English Department was asked by the academic publisher Salem Press and Mark Twain scholar and editor Dr. R. Kent Rasmussen to write a chapter about teaching The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in the 21st century classroom for the forthcoming Critical Insights edition on this work.
He was chosen because his Writings of Mark Twain Course Honors is arguably the only one of its kind on the high school and college level in the United States.
This past year’s Twain class were given detailed worksheets to elicit substantive comments and questions stimulating their critical thinking on selected chapter topics. From class discussions, the questions draw insights on life from the personal experiences of these students and, above all, connections to their present lives. Their comments are included in his chapter giving them all “published author” status.
This is Mr. Pascal's 12th formal publication representing original work in the field of Mark Twain Studies.
