Seton Hall Prep is New Jersey’s oldest Catholic college preparatory school. The Prep's tradition is matched by its commitment to the education of young men by teaching them to think critically, communicate effectively and become contributing members of society.
At Seton Hall Prep, students participate in many of the amazing offerings available to them outside of the classroom. This includes 15 sports, more than 70 activities and clubs, a variety of intramurals and a seemingly endless number of service projects.
“To equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ.”
Seton Hall Prep's Annual Buzz-Off and Tag Day earlier this month helped raise $5,500 for cancer research. Many students and faculty volunteered their heads to be shaved while dedicating the cut to a loved one or simply, "A Cure."
Nine barbers volunteered their time to cut hair during the lunch block, including Sandi Ronzo (Sapphire Sky Hair Salon), Michael Walters (father of Aidan ‘25), Chris Barnitt (Director of School Counseling), Chris Scheick (School Counselor), Erika Vitale (sister of School Counselor Mark Vitale), Daniel Ross (Bello Men’s Barbering), Rosalia Roman, (Mother-in-law of SHP Teacher Tess Umana), and Ray Sawyer (SHP Math Teacher).
Charities supported through the Buzz-Off and Tag Day include:
Minette’s Angels: Minette’s Angels supports breast cancer awareness, provides assistance to those in treatment, and promotes breast health awareness. Each year Minette’s Angels awards a scholarship to a high school senior entering the nursing program at SHU; and an impact scholarship to a high school senior who has been affected by breast cancer. The 2020 recipient was Nicholas Gullace '20. This foundation is assisted by Rita Mughetto, a SHP alumni mom.
Tackle Kids Cancer: A foundation run by Hackensack Meridian Health that raises money for pediatric cancer research and patient care. All proceeds will be doubled by Eli Manning through “Eli’s Challenge.”
“Team Tate” is a St. Baldrick’s team: St. Baldrick’s is the top charity funder of childhood cancer research in U.S. & World. Team Tate is in honor of SHP freshman James Cullen’s 10 year old cousin. SHP is proud to be a part of Tate’s Team.
Proceeds will also go to the Valerie Fund for Childhood Cancer and the American Cancer Society.
