Brian, or Pop as he was known to his family, was raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark, NJ. After attending Seton Hall Prep, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for 4 years stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Upon his return home from the war, he completed his undergraduate and master degrees at Seton Hall University – Dad was a pirate through and through. He married the love of his life, Mary Catherine, and together created a loving family of 16 children, 43 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren (plus 3 more on the way)!
Dad was a devout Catholic, a voracious reader, an avid golfer and enjoyed tending to his beautiful rose garden. He believed strongly in three things; family, faith, and friends, and that one could overcome anything with their love and support. He loved his family and his home. Brian could often be found in his cabana at the Allenhurst Beach Club or on the greens of Spring Lake Golf Club.
His happiest times were spent with his friends from the SLGC lunch group and his family at his beloved Allenhurst home where his favorite pastime was relaxing on the front porch. The sight of Pop sitting in his chair was a welcome invitation to all who passed by to come join him for a cocktail and conversation. All who knew him will remember him in his familiar resting pose: reclining with his legs crossed, his left hand over his heart and his right hand holding his gin on the rocks.
Dad’s beginnings were in Newark, NJ where he was raised along with his two brothers and sister. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory (SHP) School (then located in South Orange, NJ) and forged friendships that lasted his entire lifetime. SHP meant a great deal to Dad, so much so that even after his family moved to the Jersey Shore, Dad commuted every day his senior year so he could graduate a Pirate.
All seven of his sons graduated from SHP and they all carry on that same love and dedication for Seton Hall. So we felt what better way to honor Dad then to forge the things that meant most to him – family, friends, faith, Seton Hall and golf. All proceeds raised during the tournament will be used to establish a scholarship for under-privileged young men to attend Seton Hall Preparatory School.
