Seton Hall Prep is New Jersey’s oldest Catholic college preparatory school. The Prep's tradition is matched by its commitment to the education of young men by teaching them to think critically, communicate effectively and become contributing members of society.
At Seton Hall Prep, students participate in many of the amazing offerings available to them outside of the classroom. This includes 15 sports, more than 70 activities and clubs, a variety of intramurals and a seemingly endless number of service projects.
“To equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ.”
SHP Alumnus Msgr. Joseph R. Reilly ’83 Named University President
Seton Hall Prep alumnus Monsignor Joseph R. Reilly, S.T.L., Ph.D., Class of 1983, was appointed as Seton Hall University's 22nd President. After Monsignor Reilly graduated Seton Hall Prep he continued on to attend the University and earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1987. He was later ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Newark in 1991. He served us at The Prep as a Theology Teacher, Director of Campus Ministry, and Chaplain from 1995-2002, upon which he returned to Seton Hall University as Rector of the College Seminary at St. Andrew’s Hall.
"We are thrilled to see Monsignor Reilly named Seton Hall University's 22nd President," remarked SHP President, Msgr. Michael E. Kelly '57. "His appointment marks the return of a priest-president to Seton Hall, which has been a hallmark of the University for 146 out of its 168-year history. We are honored that Monsignor Reilly spent his formative years as a high school student with us and then returned as a faculty member after graduating the seminary."
"It is incredible news that one of our own alumni is the President at the University," added Michael G. Gallo '79, SHP Headmaster. "Our history is marked by a close relationship between the two institutions, and his appointment will surely help that continue to flourish. Monsignor Reilly was a revered colleague and I am confident he will continue to make us proud with his work at the University."
Seton Hall Prep and Seton Hall University shared a campus in South Orange until 1985, when Seton Hall Prep purchased the current property in West Orange. In 1986 The Prep became separately incorporated and held its first Board of Trustees meeting that same year. To this day, it is a highlight for students, parents, and faculty alike that our students continue to graduate on the beautiful campus in South Orange at the state-of-the-art Walsh Gymnasium.
