Seton Hall Prep is New Jersey’s oldest Catholic college preparatory school. The Prep's tradition is matched by its commitment to the education of young men by teaching them to think critically, communicate effectively and become contributing members of society.
At Seton Hall Prep, students participate in many of the amazing offerings available to them outside of the classroom. This includes 15 sports, more than 70 activities and clubs, a variety of intramurals and a seemingly endless number of service projects.
“To equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ.”
Robotics Team Qualifies for FMA District Championships
The Robotics Team has been hard at work building and competing with their robot dubbed “The Shanty” in this year’s First Robotics Competition. With only ten weeks to build the robot from scratch, the team jumped into action to build the 100 lb machine that would complete the tasks in this year’s game. The students worked through all parts of the process: design, prototyping, fabrication, wiring, testing, coding, drive practice, and strategy.
Team 5992 competed at two district events at Montgomery Regional Highschool and Warren Hills Regional Highschool. Team 5992 held a record of 8 wins and 4 losses in the qualifying rounds of both competitions, earning them a Top 10 spot (out of over 30+ teams) and an alliance captain seat (where we can select two other schools to create an alliance with) during playoffs. Team 5992 became the 8th alliance captain in Montgomery and the 6th alliance captain in Warren Hills.
After the playoffs in both competitions, our alliance ended ranking 5th place in Montgomery and 3rd place in Warren Hills. We also received the highest scores in both Montgomery and Warren Hills, earning 108 points and 87 points, respectively.
The team's hard work and efforts also earned them the prestigious FRC First Mid-Atlantic (FMA) Excellence in Engineering Award at the Montgomery District event which is given to the team who “demonstrates a professional approach to the design process” and whose “designs are elegant and advantageous to the field of play”.
Performances at these district events qualified the squad for the FMA District Championships at Stabler Arena in Lehigh University, which is the first time SHP has qualified since 2019. It was a great experience to compete with 60 of the best teams in our district, which consists of over 120 teams. Team 5992 would like to thank all the mentors, parents, supporters, sponsors, team members, and Seton Hall Prep for all your dedication and support.
